Euthanasia, Mercy Killing, And Euthanasia - 1101 Words

Euthanasia, mercy killing, assisted suicide, no matter what you call it, the topic is very controversial. Personally, I would have to agree with the concept. I know that there are people who are completely against it, and there are those that would consider it in certain situations. By covering this topic maybe I can share some light on the pros of euthanasia for those against it. Euthanasia by definition is the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy. Now I ask you, who would not want this choice? If someone you know or love was terminally ill or had an incurable disease, why should they suffer for long periods of time when they could have the right to end their lives without pain? Either with or without a medical professional. Some arguments made on behalf of euthanasia are that like abortion, people should have the right to choose. Others say that having the right to choose to di e is having the ultimate civil right. We have more rights as Americans than in any other country, but the ultimate choice of how and when we die is stripped from us. We do so much medically to keep the terminally ill alive. Feed them for months, or even years through feeding tubes to keep them alive. We place these people with no sense of the life they once lived, in long term nursing facilities.
